One of the things I love about the endometriosis community is how supportive everyone is. Obviously we would prefer to not have to be part of it to begin with, but the other endo girls I've met are always so willing to share encouragement, research, tips and tricks. That's why today I want to do my part and tell you all about Dot Period Clothes.

Because so much is unknown about endometriosis, it is often difficult to get insurance to cover surgery done by a qualified excision expert (see my previous post about why excision is the gold standard and why you should never get ablation as an endometriosis patient). I was lucky that mine covered it in its entirety without questioning anything, but that is definitely not the case with everyone.

Sara Beaudoin, founder of Dot Period Clothes is seeking to do something to help fellow endometriosis suffers afford their excision surgeries. Sara was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007 and had ablation surgery. Since then, she has suffered with the crippling symptoms of endometriosis. It is even painful to walk. That's when she found Dr. Seckin's book The Doctor Will See You Now (see my review here) and it gave her hope. After switching insurance and playing to fly to see Dr. Seckin in New York, her insurance denied her request to cover her excision surgery.

That's when Sara started looking for ways to pay for her surgery. She discovered that there is no line of comfy clothing for women on their periods. Considering most women spend 7-10 years menstruating in their lifetime, Sara saw an opportunity to help her fellow endometriosis patients while also providing women with comfortable clothes on for their periods.

Dot Period Clothes launches its Etsy store today. It needs 150 presales to get started. Once Sara has funded her excision surgery, she will start funding someone else's. Eventually she wants to turn the company into a non-profit. However, she wants to make the biggest impact she can as soon as possible. Please consider supporting her store if you're in the market for new sweats, shirts, or hoodies. They're cute, they look so comfortable and they go up to size 2x! Plus, you're helping fund excision surgeries for those who need them to live a more pain free life. It's a win win! Thank you all for your support!
